Fresh vegetables and fruit of all kinds. When Jo Dee arrived at our studios, she was carrying a plate of grilled asparagus and peppers. She munched on those as we set up to do the show. It's always ideal to grab a banana, orange, or apple when you're having hunger pangs.
Protein shake. Her favorite mix, that she says tastes better than any other brand, is Spiru-tein in either strawberry, chocolate, or banana. She adds lowfat milk, some water if needed, and sweetener.
Marinated tofu. Open a package of extra firm tofu and slice it into 1/4 inch slices right inside the package. Pour your favorite marinade into the package and let it drain down into the slices. Jo Dee likes to use either soy sauce or Dale's Steak Sauce. Cover and keep in the refrigerator. When you need a snack, remove a few slices and "fry" in a pan until brown on each side.
Pancake cookies. To your favorite pancake mix, add an egg and milk and a bit of olive oil to make a fairly thick batter. Place dollops of batter in a cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 350 degrees until lightly brown. Jo Dee keeps these handy for any sudden hunger pang or to take with her when she's rushing out the door.
Fresh celery stalks with peanut butter. Spread a small amount of peanut butter in the groove of a stalk of washed celery.
Peanut butter spoon. When you are really in a hurry, eat a spoonful of peanut butter. Jo Dee tries to get the freshly ground peanut butter from health food stores that doesn't have any salt or sugar added. The peanut flavor is so good and satisfying that you may never want to eat peanut butter from a jar again! |
